My High School Job Experience
I prepared food, handled customers, and sold TVs in my highschool years
I had more jobs then the average student in high school but that isn’t a bad thing. I got to experience a lot of what entry level jobs had to offer. I was trained in everything from food handling to selling tech products.
I started in Fast Food and I didn’t mind it too much. Over the course of a year I learned every job McDonald’s had to offer. I started on register and worked my way up to grill. My favorite job was “table” where you make and wrap the burgers. It was very fast paced and I needed to know what ingredients to put on each order.
After that school year I struggled to find a job due to Covid but eventually I got hired as a cashier at Strack & Van Til. The work wasn’t difficult but the long hours standing in my cashier booth weren’t enjoyable. I would volunteer every chance I got to do carts or face product just to get out of there. I left soon after to look for a job that better used my skills.
It was this search that lead me to my local Best Buy and I was finally able to get an interview for a seasonal warehouse position. I worked to stock product and fulfill orders during the stressful holiday season. The season eventually came to an end though and I was left looking again. May of 2022 I reapplied to be on the sales floor and it was a big change of pace. I now had to be the expert and there were many areas that I had no experience in. I learned a lot about TV’s, phones, and printers. I was working to get on Geek Squad and I had a few job shadowing shifts under my belt when I got my internship.
