Final V1 Demo, Work on H2 Reactor
Moving on from V1
Saying that feels weird, but this project isn’t unique until it flies!
I fell that the V1 hardware and software is in a good place so I’ll move on to building the V2 model. The server code isn’t perfect and there are still some features I want to add but I want a change of pace. I might come back to V1 in the future because it has the dual cameras for computer vision. The rest of the sensors are useless if its sitting on a desk though.
I’m excited to get the V2 hardware up and running because that is where the real magic will happen. I feel that talking to a phone or pin or any other inanimate object they decide to stuff AI into is weird. The whole goal of this project is to create a robot that people fell comfortable talking to. This means it needs to be helpful and not annoying to be around. So noise output and disruptions need to be kept to a minimum and it needs to answer questions I might have. The hardware will be difficult but the software already has great potential as I show in my demo below.
Tile Conversation Demo 2!
It holds nothing back!
Overall I’m happy with how this turned out! It’s very fast and it doesn’t hesitate to roast me when given the chance. It misunderstood “temps” as “tents” but this only really happens when I shorten words and don’t speak toward the microphone. Ideally it would pick this up so for the V2 Tile I might use three microphones instead of one. I’m using a lexicon to decide which emotions to display but I might switch to an AI model for better accuracy. My implementation of the emotions was a little half baked but that is ok because I’ll need to redo all that code anyway. I’m switching to WS2812 LEDs which work differently so hopefully I’ll be able to implement a more dynamic approach for displaying emotions. The server code is only 400 lines right now which is good because I want to keep it as simple as possible.
For the server code I’ll eventually want to implement a vector database for storing RAG context. This could allow 45 to retain context for months or years! I could add a web portal so I could upload documents to ask 45 questions about. All the big companies are using RAG so this is the best route.
H2V2
Meltdown Imminent?
I’m hard at work on the second version of my electrolysis reactor. I have all the plastics coated in epoxy but I’ll probably sand them and add a second coat to be safe. I’m going to reduce the concentration of sodium hydroxide but I don’t want to take any chances because of what happened last time. I’ll need to redo most of the electrical system but I should have it running for next week’s post.

Plans For Next Week:
More Chemical Engineering?
I might do some more programming but I think I’ll transition to working on the V2 hardware more. The electrolysis reactor is first on my list but I also need to build the circuit board for the V2 Tile. I designed the V2 board in post 11 but I haven’t gotten around to laying it out in KiCad. I have all the components already so I’m the bottleneck like usual.
To Do List:
- Assemble the V2 reactor
- Install sensors and program the Arduino for automatic control.
- Start V2 circuit board design?
