Building 45 Part 9: Week of Programming
AI Helped A Little Bit...
I’m a hardware guy but cool projects need cool programs
I enjoyed the build process a lot and I think it turned out very good even though it doesn’t fly. The rest of the hardware is functional and I learned a lot that I can apply to the next model. This project is already worth the effort to me but I want to take it to the next level by getting the AI working. The issue is that I can’t specialize in everything. I can design and build a Tile but I definitely don’t have the knowledge to program one. That is where AI comes in. I’m on my current pace because AI makes learning and building so much faster. I used AI to research the project, I handled the design, and I’m using AI to fill in the gaps in my programming knowledge. The scope of this project was too much for two months but AI helped make my demo goals possible.
Speech to Speech Demo!
It has some hitches and there is still lots of work to do, but it works!
I mainly programmed this over two days and I think it turned out pretty good for such a quick demo. I’m cheating a little bit by including this demo in this week’s post but I was sick all day Saturday so I think its fair. I’m not streaming the audio here so it could be a little bit faster. Overall it took around 12 seconds to send the audio back to the client which isn’t great but it was a long response and I haven’t done any optimizations. I know people were able to get this down to just a few seconds so I’ll keep trying. I’m also sending over the internet twice so my results will be a bit slower.
Keeping Promises
I still have to complete my group project which took some time this weekend
I was pretty tired on Friday but I got my group project almost done. It is important because I learned about programming interfaces and circuit board design. These are requirements for the second model so I wanted to get it right in this project. I’m working on this project because it would’ve been difficult to work on this initial tile project in a group. I’m still figuring things out myself and I wouldn’t be able to give my group members access to my server. I’ll figure this all out for the V2 model.

One More Post!
I doubt I’ll have much time for the project over the coming week but I’ll try
I already know of one test next week but I probably have a lot more going on. I also have the wedding I have to travel to. I’ll probably end up rushing to get homework done instead of working on the project. Time will tell.
Next week the plan is to:
- Try to fix the 10 second audio clip requirement
- Fix the volume
- Change out the voice
- Combine the three functions into one and make it as fast as possible (stream the speech?)
- Make the LED sprites for eye emotions
- Sentiment analysis for eye control
